I use Video Surgeon to practice guitar. I've purchased several courses from Griff Hamlin (BluesGuitarUnleashed.com), and he told his students about your program. I'll be honest, I was using VLC media player and thought how different could VS really be? I purchased Video Surgeon late last year and quickly realized how wrong I had been. Griff provides his trainings in video formats that I can quickly import into VS. I love the feature of being able to create loops the then save them for my next practice session. With VLC, I had to re-set those loops up every time I opened the file, and I could only create one loop at a time.
With any new lesson, I really like the ability in VS to focus a section of the guitar lick and slow it down so that I can count and get the feel of it. I can then gradually increase my speed. I used to find it difficult to set the tempo back to 100%, then I clicked on the Undo icon next to the tempo box. Definitely user error. I also use the Sniffer feature with YouTube to study other artists.
As far as a potential addition, I've wanted to be able to create a loop within a loop. If I'm working on a new 12 bar solo, it would be great to be able to loop a couple of bars within the 12 bar loop.
I had to have some work done on my computer recently, I had some trouble opening Video Surgeon files. I used your help desk, and they were very responsive. I'm very happy that you stand behind your product so well.
Thanks for the great software!

I have had this program for a few years now and I use it all the time to learn songs on guitar. One of my favorite online teacher who teaches all the great songs for acoustic really does not hold your hand and spoon feed you what he is doing so I really need to slow it down and loop it over and over sometimes before I get it. This program has made it so easy for me. I cant began to tell you how much I love it!

I'm a bassist and music teacher and being able to slow down performance to analyze bowings and fingerings using Video Surgeon is extremely helpful.
I'm also impressed with Song Surgeon - the quality when slowing down audio is impressive. However I noticed that it has issues importing FLAC files. It will start to import them but the Scanning Peaksa process never end.
Song Surgeon actually helped me win an audition. Last summer I had two days to learn songs for a band and Song Surgeon was my tool of choice that helped. I have several audio programs to adjust pitch and speed but yours has the best quality and features.

I have had Video Surgeon for many years and upgraded to version 2.0 when it came out.
I use it exclusively to play music. I use it to practice our band's tunes. Have also used online tunes to get ideas and to be able to observe what they do on for example, guitar or bass.
It is a phenomenal program! My favorite feature is "zoom" so I can get right to what I need to see as close up as I need.
The support also has remained consistently excellent over the years. I particularly like the training videos, which I return to often, when I have forgotten how a particular feature works.
A few months ago I purchased "Song Surgeon" which is awesome and I am able to transfer tunes from Video Surgeon to Song Surgeon easily. I highly recommend both of these softwares to any serious musician, whether student, teacher, or professional.
Recently I’ve been rediscovering the joy of covering Motown and rock classics. Youtube is a great source of “lessons” so I use the sniffer to pull the song into whatever format sniffer recommends at the top (usually mp4) and then import it into a project. Have you ever thought of combining that action into one menu choice? It would start with paste Youtube URL, then SS would automatically save it to MP4 (strip illegal file name characters) and then import it to a new project and save it with the same name. It would be nice if the sniffer file is saved to the sniffer folder and the project file to projects.
I bought both Song and Video Surgeon. I haven’t gotten sniffing working for Google Play Music All Access I think because I haven’t sorted out how that would work when I have my USB audio interface plugged in (Lexicon Alpha). I use that at all times so I can plug my bass in and control mix of it against the computer audio (VS, SS, Youtube). I use a Sansamp Bass DI, output is to a pair of Tannoy monitors.
Video Surgeon really saved the day when I recently got a last minute call to perform at a charity event. I never learned covers so fast.
Thanks for creating the program!
In one of Griff Hamlin's e-mails to his many followers - he recently did a short demo of Video Surgeon and mentioned that there was a time limited special. As a direct result of his demo I bought your software.
What a great learning aid! The software is very intuitive and, after downloading it, and based on Griff's short demo, I was up and running within a few short minutes. I have been playing Walk Don't Run by the Ventures for years and knew that I didn't have one small piece of it just quite right. I found a good YouTube video - imported it into Video Surgeon, slowed it down, zoomed in on the player's fret hand and had it nailed within a couple of minutes.
I am now going through your tutorials so that I don't miss out on any of its capabilities. Your lessons are really well done. Just the right length and with a level of detail that should enable anyone to get the most out of the software.
A FIVE STAR rating for your software and tutorials. (And I received the
Video Surgeon software program on CD along with the special offers in about four days which was a
pleasant surprise since I live in Canada. So Five Stars also for the fast shipping).
A friend of mine was was pestering me to try Video Surgeon but for the longest time I just didn't take the time to do so. Finally, last week I installed the program and all I can say is Wow....what a killer tool. I can't believe I took so long to look at it. Every guitar player that utilizes video in their training, lessons or learning should give it a try - it's that valuable of a tool.
After completing my review of Video Surgeon, I now highly recommend it to all of my students and my 27,000 + customers who have purchased my online courses.
I just started playing not 2 months ago. Love B.B.King so I bought a Ibenez af75 art core hollow body. Started following Griff Hamlin's blues unleashed. He recommended the Video Surgeon. Excellent advice I must say. It only took about a round 45 minutes with the 4 hour demo and I ordered the full setup. And as for help when you need it James Todd called me on a Sunday to help me. You can't ask for anything more than that for service. Besides the problem was mine. Go figure. Thanks again.
I found Video Surgeon to be easy to use and a valuable tool for musicians that aspire to learn new musical phrases and techniques from video recordings.
I made a review for Video Surgeon:

I am a National Banjo Champion
1998. I have my own signature banjo through Nechville Musical Products with a model name - Diamond Joe.
I have also worked for Dolly Parton Fiesta Texas San Antonio ( Music Country Music) Dollywood.
This software program is amazing ! Slow down , magnify the video to see hand position and fingerings of any string instrument with ease. Video Surgeon has a very easy to understand tutorials and breakdown of major functions of the program. Have a question about any function and the tutorials have you going in no time at all. This software has broken down the most complex situation of slowing the video and sound down to a crawl to learn your favorite musicians riffs . Plus you can magnify the hands of the artist with ease.
Video Surgeon has a built in Youtube sniffer . So its easy to pull down video from the site. Video Surgeon has it all worked out for you so you don't have to spend time learning the software so much as you can spend more time learning your favorite musician's riff!
I come from a bluegrass background and banjo riffs can be very quick and hard to pick up fast. Video Surgeon does it with ease. It works great on any bluegrass instrument. Now with all that said if the video was shot on a phone and the camera person was not paying close enough attention to capture the artist hands in the video clearly ,this is not the fault of Video Surgeon's functionality . At the time I received a copy of Video Surgeon I was only able to pull video off of the internet from Youtube. They informed me they could guide me through the process of pulling video from other sources from the internet. This would be an area where improvement could be made. Now it will pull video from any DVD mind you. This is a great tool for taking your skills as a musician to the next level. A great tool for all students learning great techniques of the masters of their respected instruments. If I had three thumbs I would give this product three thumbs up but since I don't I will give it a two thumbs up.
I am a solo jazz guitarist and I use Video Surgeon for learning complex jazz guitar songs that otherwise would be out of my reach without sheet music.
For example, the day after I purchased Video Surgeon, I ran across a video of a song that I just HAD to have in order to perform it in Christmas concert that I had been invited to perform in. I wrote the artist in the video and he wasn't able to provide me with the sheet music due to copyright issues. So I used Video Surgeon to rip it from YouTube, slow it down, zoom in and learn it note by note, chord by chord. And, only with the help of Video Surgeon I was able to learn this HUGE song for myself and perform it live in the concert last weekend.
I have always been DIY kind of a guy. That means I teach myself. I have looked for a very long time for a program that can slow video down and then zoom in to allow me to more easily see a swing. Video Surgeon has made teaching myself easier and I have actually seen an improvement in my game.
You guys have a great product. I actually find VS to be quite intuitive and user friendly, though I did watch the tutorial and other youtube videos on the software. Two things I am looking for are (a) the ability to take a fairly low quality video and enhance it to make a crisper, cleaner video (the clearest example I can think of is the enhanced video of the battleship Arizona during the Pearl Harbor attack which was originally shot with relatively low quality but was rendered with high definition recently and (b) the ability to take a crisp freeze frame and export the frame as a JPEG or picture image without having to resort to a third party solution like the snipping tool, etc.
I practice Tai Chi very seriously and, with your software, I have been able to improve my form. There are many intricate moves within each form that I was not able to detect with other software. For me your software has been a good investment.
Lot of people cannot believe that I am only playing guitar since 18 months and I just tried the demo version. It is simply incredible, everybody can benefit of this program. I will order it in the next days, taking advantage of your offer.
It is the perfect extension of Song Surgeon. It really boosted my guitar playing. Lot of people cannot believe that I am only playing guitar since 18 months. But you and I have a little secret!!!!!!! Thanks again.
I find both the VS 1 and VS 2 are very good programs, but I must say that VS 2 is the best one. I use it to learn new songs to play and it´s good to slow down the song in difficult parts of the song.
I must say that I like VS very much and therefore I use it often. Thank´s for such a program and good luck to develope the program.
I like it very much. I find it useful for YouTube videos and slowing the frame rate so you can see the finger positions on the guitar.
The program is fabulous and it made my learning difficult passages a hundred times easier on the violin.
I wish I had video surgeon 20 years ago. It makes learning songs and solos some much easier and with a lot less time.
I just recently bought into the The Vocalization Studio, that was founded by Robert Lunte, who has a very awesome singing software that works much better than a previous singing software I bought and thought was "the very best of them all, until I came across Robert singing and demonstrating his teaching techniques; it's so awesome. And, with both VS and SS programs "at the ready" I'm positive I will master the course much easier and faster. Thanks again for creating such awesome and very useful products as Song Surgeon and Video Surgeon. You are doing a very great service for all of us musicians, as well as sports enthusiasts, etc., and everyone else who can use VS and/or SS to capture exactly what they want and edit their "creations" exactly as they wish.
I am using Video Surgeon to help me learn to play the guitar, with much help from Griff Hamlin’s BG courses. I am a total newbie so being able to slow everything down to see the fretting and picking in detail is a real plus.
I use Video Surgeon primarily for music. Additionally, I often use Video Surgeon to download a performance by a musical artist or group that is playing a song that I want to learn. Again, I download the video to an external hard drive that is dedicated to my music resources (videos, music tabulations, lyrics, chords, etc).
I use Video Surgeon for guitar instruction videos and recording software videos. Everything is great with your product, does everything that was claimed about it and really helps me in learning!
Thanks very much for your help. Can't believe the support you guys give. I have recommended Video Surgeon to several of my friends even before this fix and will continue to do so.
