Dear Friend,

Weekly Tip – Print to File

There is no video for this weekly video tip, because I don’t have the new version yet with this feature built into it.  But, when the Mac version is released, along with its corresponding updated Windows version, both with have the Print to File feature incorporated into it.  Instead of printing to paper, this feature will allow you to print to file, thereby allowing you to save a video frame or frames as graphic (jpg) files.

Beta Testing on Mac Version is Completed

The beta testing results for Mac are in. As of this writing I have reviewed about half of them and don’t see any major issues. This means we should be on schedule for a release and launch of the Mac version no later than mid-February.

If you’d like to be notified as soon as Video Surgeon for Mac is available, please sign up for our launch notification list by sending an email to vs4mac@getresponse.com

As promised, Mac users will be able to buy the Mac version at the same price for which we offered the Windows version when it was first launched.  That price was and will be $84.95.

There are also a number of you that have asked about running Video Surgeon on both Mac and Windows machines.  To accommodate this we will be adding a DUAL OS license option for $14.95.

This option will allow purchasers to register and activate Video Surgeon on a maximum of three machines – both Mac and Windows.  To state the obvious, this is not a stand alone option.  In order to purchase this you must buy or already own Video Surgeon Version 2.

The new Mac version will require an Intel chipset.  It will run on Mac OSx 10.6.8 – thru 10.9.x

If you have an older Mac with a less powerful CPU or smaller amounts of memory, though the program will open and run, I would suggest you take the trial version for a test drive before buying.

Video Surgeon Tester Comments

Let me  leave you with a few of the comments from some of the Mac beta testers.

  • Here are the results of my testing. I was blown away by the features and capabilities of this software!

  • I love this application already and am getting a lot of use out of it. Thank you for letting me a part of the testing.
It won't be long now. Watch your email for more updates on the Launch of the Mac version.

p.s.  This email about Video Surgeon recently came in.

You guys have a great product.  I actually find VS to be quite intuitive and user friendly, though I did watch the tutorial and other youtube videos on the software.  Two things I am looking for are (a) the ability to take a fairly low quality video and enhance it to make a crisper, cleaner video (the clearest example I can think of is the enhanced video of the battleship Arizona during the Pearl Harbor attack which was originally shot with relatively low quality but was rendered with high definition recently-  sorry, I couldn’t find the recent link) and (b) the ability to take a crisp freeze frame and export the frame as a JPEG or picture image without having to resort to a third party solution like the snipping tool, etc.

Video Surgeon 2 – Call For Mac Beta Testers

We have made good progress on the Mac build, and I hope to be in beta testing shortly after the new year.  Therefore, if you have a Mac 10.6.6 or newer (Intel Chipset only) and are interested in beta testing, please send an email to: info@videosurgeon.net and in the email subject line insert the word “beta testing” and the version of your Mac OS.  For example the subject line might read:   Video Surgeon Beta testing 10.6.6.

Here is what is expected of beta testers:

1. A minimum of 6 hours of testing with Video Surgeon

2. Compiling and send a final report. This report should contain your comments and suggestions as well as any errors, bugs or problems that you encounter.

3. Complete all testing and reporting within 10 days if possible, but no later than 2 weeks of the initiation of testing.

4, Conducted subsequent retesting on a revised version if requested.

In exchange for your time as a beta tester, you will receive a FREE copy of  Video Surgeon 2 for Mac – – and of course you will have first access to Video Surgeon as well as direct access to us, to provide us with your comments and suggestions.

We will notify all beta testers of their selection within the next couple of weeks.

Last Minute Christmas Specials!

As most of you know, we concluded our 6 week long launch promotion of Video Surgeon and we also raised the price as we informed you that we would.  If you missed this correspondence the math is simple;  This new version of Video Surgeon,  by the time the Mac piece is finished, will come in at 3X the initial budget.  The good news is that I am confident you’ll find that it is worth the money.

In response to people asking about Christmas specials – and knowing that there is still some Christmas shopping going on, we have instituted a smaller sale that combines a price discount with a $1 CD and free shipping (both US and International).

U.S. orders placed within the next couple of days should still arrive by Christmas – but don’t wait much longer – because the mail service is getting bogged down.

p.s. I have mentioned that ANYONE that uses video could benefit from Video Surgeon.

Last week I had someone that was a world champion Yoyo performer, write me about Video Surgeon.  I had never thought about this before, but I can easily image how it would be useful to be able to slow down yoyo tricks to see how someone is performing them.

Video Surgeon 2.0 Sneak Peak Video

This week we have another sneak peak video that demonstrates the Exporting feature found in the new Video Surgeon version 2. Briefly stated, Exporting creates a new video with tempo, key or editing changes embedded in it. That means that your changes become portable and you are not tied to your computer. Watch the video for more details.

Video Surgeon 2 – Almost There

As the old saying goes, I have some good news and bad news.  First the bad. The development of Version 2 has taken us much longer than expected.  We are also way over budget.  The good news is that we are making steady progress and that we expect to begin beta testing on the Windows version later this week.  That means that the Windows version should be available in about 1 month.  Finally!

Don’t panic if you are a Mac user.  The Mac version is also almost done. We simply don’t have the resources to test them both at once. As soon as the Windows version is launched, we’ll finish up the Mac version, go into beta testing then launch the mac version. I expect this will be about 6 weeks AFTER the Windows version.

Video Surgeon Pricing and Upgrade Policy

We continue to get questions about our upgrade policy as well as the costs. For upgrade
questions, please refer to our upgrade policy found here.

http://www.videosurgeon.net/upgrade_policy.html

The expected launch price will be right at $100 ($97).  Existing Video Surgeon customers
will receive a 25% discount off this price.

Audio Switch File Conversion Utility – Now Available!

Audio Switch is an audio batch file converter.  It opens and converts the most common file formats, whether you have 5, 50 or 5000 you need to do at one time.  It also converts video, so if you have video files for which you’d like to strip the audio, it will also do that. Lastly Audio Switch has a volume normalizer built into it; it has the ability to measure the loudness of all of your files, tell you if they are clipping or not, and then enables you to change the loudness within a group of files to a common value.   You can learn more about this new product here.  For a quick overview I would encourage you to watch the video on the product website at the URL below

http://www.audio-switch.net

We are offering a 33% discount during this launch period, so you can grab Audio Switch for only $19.95. Grab your copy now. We are excited about this new product. Let us know what you think.

Dear Friend,

Video Surgeon 2.0 Sneak Peak Video

In this sneak peak video, we discuss the looping functionality, that will be found in Version 2.  Version 1 allowed only a single loop area.  This new version will allow an unlimited number of loops – each of which can be customized with their own settings.  This video goes into some detail about this.

Video Surgeon Development Update

Version 2 has been a challenge.  We are way over budget in terms of both hours spent on this program and of course on cost.  However, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I would estimate we have another 2 weeks of work before we have a build for testing. After that we’ll have about 2 weeks of beta testing, followed by another two weeks of final changes – and then, finally it will be ready for sale.  In total that is six more weeks.  Thanks for your patience. I think you’ll find the wait is worth it.

The Mac version is being developed simultaneously with Win version. However, we don’t have the resources to test them both at once, so, we’ll be staggering the testing and launch. First with the Windows version, Followed by the Mac version, approximately 4-6 weeks later.

Video Surgeon Pricing and Upgrade Policy

questions, please refer to our upgrade policy found here.

The expected launch price will be right at $100 ($97).  Existing Video Surgeon customers
will receive a 25-35% discount off this price.

Audio Switch File Conversion Utility – New Product

We have been working on a smaller project this summer called Audio Switch.  This product is a batch file converter. It converts all of the main audio and VIDEO file types into audio files.  It can work on 5, 50, or 5000.  It should be available within the next two weeks, so stay tuned for future announcements.  Here is the introduction video we’ll be using on the website, which provides a good overview.

Video Surgeon Development Update

We are getting closer to kicking off beta testing. I would estimate this is 2 to 3 weeks away.  I will know more later this week, and once I get that news I will be selecting beta testers and contacting them.  It is looking like we will have the Win version for beta testing first, followed within 2-4 weeks by the Mac version.  We expect beta testing to take about 2 weeks followed by a final two weeks of programming modifications.  This suggest we will have a Windows version available around the 1st of September and a Mac version about the first of October. If these tentative dates change substantially we’ll let you know.

Video Surgeon Pricing and Upgrade Policy

We have been getting a lot of questions about pricing and upgrades, etc. so let’s address these. Pricing for Version 2 has been set at $97. Existing customers will get a 35% discount.  And anyone that has purchased Video Surgeon within 90 days of the launch of this new version will get the new version free. In addition, anyone that purchased upgrade protection at the time they purchased the existing version will also receive Version 2 free.  More details on our upgrade policy can be found here: http://www.videosurgeon.net/upgrade_policy.html

Dear Friend,

Video Surgeon 2.0 Development

It has been a couple of months since I have been in contact.  We have busy developing and then launching Version 4 of our Song Surgeon product.  But, in addition, we have also been developing Version 2 of Video Surgeon.

After more than 2 years of trying to develop this product internally,  about 3 months ago I hired an outside firm to finish the work, because we were just didn’t have time to do it ourselves.

I have been intentionally silent about this program because I feel a little like the boy that cried wolf. We have had too many starts and stops on this new version and I wanted to be more certain we were making progress before I mentioned it to you.  Obviously, because you are reading about this, we have made progress, and I hope to finally release this product before the summer is over.

Right now this is not a lot else I can tell you, but I have provided a image of what the User Interface will look like below.  This is a miniaturized version, and the normal version will not only be larger, but will be able to be infinitely resized.

Version 2 Features Overview

Since it has been several months, I thought it would be helpful to remind you of what this new version will be able to do.  Here is a list of some of the features and functions.

  • Slow down video to at least 25% hopefully slower
  • Have better synchronization between audio and video at slow speeds
  • Have better sound reproduction with pitch and tempo change
  • Ability to make on-screen changes permanent by export changed video to a new file
  • Ability to maximize screen size
  • Ability to review video frame by frame when necessary
  • Ability to create multiple loops within the same video and customize the settings for each
  • Ability to create marker (or bookmarks) on a timeline for labeling and for ease of locating sections quickly in the future.
  • Ability to edit videos, including copy, pasting, deleting, insert silence, inserting blank video frames
  • Ability to print any frame
  • Ability to FF or FR in preset increments with preset buttons.
  • Versions for both Mac and Windows users

The Swiss Army Knife of Audio Software

I mentioned at the top of this email that we recently launched Version 4 for Song Surgeon.  Song Surgeon is Video Surgeon’s counterpart. It is a product that works on audio only, while Video Surgeon works on video.

Song Surgeon has so many useful features that it has come to be known as the Swiss Army Knife of musicians and people that work with audio.  It can change tempo, key, loop, edit, download audio, change EQ, and even record.   If you use a lot of audio in your learning, teaching, or work, take a look at this best-in-class audio slow down product. We are currently running a 20% discount off the normal price during this launch period that expires at the end of the month.
